ATTENTION ATHLETES, FANS, VENDORS & MEDIA OF THE IFBB PBW & TG EXTRAVAGANZA PRO-AM TAMPA WEEKEND!

VERY IMPORTANT! The Granf Hyatt of Tampa Bay will be completely sold out for Satuday, July 17th. This is not a sales ploy of any kind but the simple fact from our host hotel. DO NOT MISS OUT on the convenience of the hotel's ammenities, our free airport shuttle, free motor coach transportation, our festive schedule and close proximity to Whiskey Joe's, our contest after-party. Our Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Championships discount DEADLINE of July 1st will be strictly enforced. Go online to www.pbwproshow.com under the hotel page and make your reservations now.

Email from the Grand Hyatt:

However, we can't extend the cut-off because of how tight we are that week. Any reservations after that day will be on a case by case situation which you can go through me with :) However since we are going to sell out the night of the 17th we should really get the word out to get those reservations in. Could you send an e-mail blast or post something on the website so we don't run into many problems? I just want to make sure the athletes are aware so we don't have many issues :)

THANK YOU FOR THE TREMENDOUS SUPPORT THIS YEAR.

FROM THE DESK OF_________________TIM GARDNER

July 17, 2010

Dear IFBB & NPC Fans:

Welcome to the 2010 IFBB Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Championships & NPC Tim Gardner Extravaganza. Please join me in decorating our IFBB professional male, female, 202 lb. men and bikini athletes from over twenty-eight various countries from all over the globe. Tonight you will see some of the finest physiques under one roof who will be vying for a top three placing to qualify them to travel to Las Vegas this late September to participate in the Olympia Weekend festivities and also to stake claim to this evening's prestigious title as the Complete Genetic Defiance's 2010 IFBB Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Champion.

We will begin in celebration with our Wings of Strength's NPC Tim Gardner Extravaganza's "Parade of Elegance" that will lead us into showcasing our aspiring amateur NPC bodybuilding, fitness, figure and bikini athletes from all over the Nation. Last year's GENr8's NPC Tim Gardner Extravaganza's overall open men bodybuilding champion, Mark Antonek, went on to realize a dream three weeks later in Cleveland by earning his IFBB Pro Card at the IFBB North American. Tonight, Mark will be standing on this very same platformed stage but as a distinguished IFBB Pro bodybuilder. As Mr. Walt Disney so emphatically once said, "If you can dream it, you can achieve it."

Additionally, Tampa draws the iconic fitness celebrities of every bit of our industry's vast spectrum with Rich Gaspari, Shawn Ray, Doris Barrileaux, Debi Laszewski and Mr. Olympia greats, Chris Dickerson, Dexter Jackson and our 2010 Ben Weider Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, 8-time Mr. O, Lee Haney.

Enjoy the first half of our ever-growing popular production as IFBB Pro Brandie Gardner beautifully navigates her way at the podium through our amateur NPC athletes, IFBB women bodybuilders, IFBB bikini competitors and IFBB 202 lb. men. Visit our 33 friendly and informative vendors in the Expo lobby during our intermission as we continue to segway into the second half with the 'Voice of Pro Bodybuilding" PBW Radio hosts, Dan Solomon and Bob Cicheillo as they masterfully document the open men bodybuilding through their commentary.

Lastly, plan on a galatical evening of celebration in fun, frolic, wine, spirits, dance and friends as we cap a gala Pro Bodybuilding Weekly weekend at Whiskey Joe's on the Courtney Campbell Causeway only minutes west of our host hotel, the Grand Hyatt of Tampa Bay.

Tonight, I reach out to each and everyone of you to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support. In our last three years, my vision has grown so vividly clear in that the IFBB Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Championships will be an annual must-see for all in the bodybuilding and fitness world. It is indicative that I too, am a proponent to Mr. Disney's wisdom.

Keep Pumpin',
Tim Gardner

Shawn Ray & Pro Bodybuilder Debi Laszewski from Muscular Development.com (http://www.musculardevelopment.com)

Lisette Acevedo:
DL: Really tight and Full! Good symettry, nice lines and conditioning. Needs alittle more side fullness and hamstrings. Posing really well.
SR: Looks great in side! Color is great, Abs looking tight, impressive!

Irene Andersen:
DL: Streamlined from last year, not tight enough, more separation required. Lacking a roundness in physique.
SR: Needs more oil, hams a tad soft. Taller girl, more thigh separation, structurally nice.

SR: Excellent color, hard and full.

Brigettita Brezovac:
DL: Color off, needs to be darker and sharper! Nice back. Bigger legs would help her, good Abs.
SR: Wide Back, good "V" Shoulders full and round, impressive!

DL: Needs more conditioning and separation all the way around. Needs to be drier.
SR: Nice color, too soft more dieting and conditioning will help. 7th here last year.

SR: Back is still wide, needs to be drier.
Smaller than NY Pro but better than there here.

Candice Carr-Archer:

SR: 3rd a yr ago here. Competed in the Ms. O in 09! Good condition, Legs look good.

DL: needs to be tighter in hams and glutes. For being tall, good balance needs better shape
SR: german Pro debut here! Full quads, Thick Shoulders and Traps

Slovenia, in Eastern Europe.

Slovenia is the most northwestern republic of the former Yugoslavia, bordering on Austria and Italy.
More south central Europe than eastern, it was culturally the most western of the Yugoslav republics.
Brigita speaks English well.

Slovenia is not to be confused with Slovakia, which broke away from Czechoslovakia,
where Aurelia Grozajova comes from and also IIRC former FBB great Zuzana Korinkova.

IMO, if FBBers would be active and compete, LW class would be awesome to see.

If FBBers (LW's specifically) could traipse through life with nothing else to do but be FBBers, perhaps more of them would be active and compete more. Maybe they would be so relaxed with nothing else to do but train that they would not be LW's anymore! Then they wouldn't be faced with the question of whether it was financially feasible to enter a contest that was stacked against them! Then economic downturns and real estate plunges wouldn't affect them, and divorces wouldn't happen and everyone would have their own magic unicorns to ride to the gym everyday...

Please, if you're gonna throw someone under the bus for not competing every year, at least use a thicker veil in your attempts. That was so catty there should be a litterbox at the bottom of the thread.

btw Tammy, 10th place LW finisher Emery Miller weighed around 121-124.

Damn damned damned shit. That was not what I meant to say AT all. I meant, if the number of entries keep staying this high as now seen, maybe there would be chance for lw class. Yeh, looking my sentence now, I definitely used wrong words to impress my idea which lead to misunderstanding ... sorry for that. Was definitely NOT blaming the girls NOT to compete all the time. (even if that sentence can be read that way.. but if they COULD compete more often and be active in competing, no matter the reasons are they cant/couldnt... )

BUT I do still would like to see LW class coming back.... though, lw girls seem to rock anyway ... but .. putting conditioned Iris , Heather A etc next to these... hmm...

I do see what you were trying to say and understand where it went astray. Thank you for clarifying that.

It still stands that the overall decision to enter a competition is easier for a HW to make. Why would a LW compromise health and money preparing for a contest loaded with Hw's, not knowing if any comparable bbers will be entering to stand and be judged with? The quality of the pro LW's is coming back up and with it the numbers of active competitive LW's is increasing. Possibly because of the confidence factor.

It has been said, time and again, that LW's, MW's and HW's are judged individually and then against each other, to get their pro cards. They are then denied the ability to do the same in the pro ranks.

Honestly, no lightweight, short of a diminutive clone, will ever beat Iris. I do feel that there are some that could challenge the rest of the field, though. Cathy L. seems to be doing well as a LW...

Good u understood!

...thinking what happened with men's pro BB. There were a lots and lots of lhw/mw guys both in the States and specially in Europe who were eligible for the pro card but didnt want to turn pro (or compete as a pro) cause yeh, u know .. when -202 class came, all these guys activated, turned pro and have killer physiques, just to name a few ... Eduardo Correa, Jose Raymond, Steve Namat, brittish guys, scandinavian guys...simply stunning physiques but whats the point if you get put next to Winklaar, Cutler, Branch etc... and I think same might happen in FBB as well, to get competitors to actually turn pro and compete more. True though, size difference is not that huge in FBB than in men's BB which makes it more possible to lw girls to fight with hw girls successfully.........

Mr. or Mrs. Sportsmanagement is not a friend of mine, as I have no idea who it is. However, the comment is certainly one that I agree with overall as a general trend. (I thought Brigita looked very good, however, so I don't necessarily agree with Sportsmanagement as it relates to this show). The general trend over the last 5 years or so, has been rewarding the conditioning of the athletes over muscular development/size/shape. (Everywhere except the Arnold and Olympia, where the most genetically superior athletes, such as Iris, Yax, Heather, Lisa Auk, etc... have the ability to get ripped and keep size). That is a bad trend, and one that rewards the Palumbo athletes, whose excessive cardio and lack of muscle sustaining ingestion of food, results in loss of muscle mass, particularly in the lower body. Lots of prep specialists, photographers, competitors, and fans agree... it's not something I'm just making up for the hell of it. I just happen to be one of the few who cares strongly enough to be outspoken about the damage that trend is doing to the sport.

Sioux, just because someone (sportsmanagement) makes a statement that some of your readership disagrees with, that doesn't make it an "immature post".

Bad trend to award conditioning in bodybuilding? I dont think so.

What it comes to trainers/coaches/gurus then. First of all, if the athlete doesnt like the way its done - however it is done - noone forces u to work with these gurus. Secondly, every single guru on earth have total freedom to bring girls on stage with huge legs , non-shrinked - and still being freaking fucking conditioned, peeled. Hmm and yes, sometimes you simply HAVE to sacrifice a bit size and fullness to be superior condiitoned and dry. Whats the problem?

When conditioning is rewarded DISPROPORTIONATELY over muscle size, shape, symmetry, and proportion, then yes, it's a VERY bad trend. It's bodyBUILDING, not bodyWASTING.

Conditioning is fine, but not when it ruins the lines of a physique, causes metabolic damage, causes the face to age by 20 years, etc....

AnneP
07-19-2010, 02:59 PM
Conditioning is fine, but not when it ruins the lines of a physique, causes metabolic damage, causes the face to age by 20 years, etc....

These competitors are adults and they can choose which way they do it. Conditioning is one freaking important factor in criteria, EVERYONE can choose THEMSELVES how to achieve the level of conditioning needed.

Looking at Tampa results, I gotta say it was judges based on total package (including all the factors in physique criteria) ....

And yes, we all have our own idea which qualities should be awarded over others. Like at men's tampa pro, I would have put Ed Nunn 3rd and JOJ 4th. . (quite different type of physiques), but judges decided to award JOJ's better conditioning (and maybe also back) over Nunn's extremely fucking great symmetry, structure, x-frame. Now .. should I start to be worried if JOJ ruined his metabolism or wait .. his legs ARE under-sized compared to the upper body, shit damn .. DONT LET IT TO HAPPEN TO JOJ, RESCUE HIM! Who damn caused his undersized LEGS? U see?

Sure I hope girls would pick the trainers who can take them trough preps as healthy as possible, but if we start to worry about others' choices in this life, its tough and after all, not our business.

You dont have to like Palumbo or his methods. Thats fine. I could also share a list of tons of trainers whose methods I would not use or which I dont think are the best. But its not needed as .. first of all, I dont know these trainers well enough, secondly, mostly ... the trainers tell whats their point and athletes CHOOSE to do so.

Awesome! I like perfect packages too. And u see, these girls also get succeed when they do so. But when those are not in line up, then some other girls win even if they - in your opinion - are not "the good ones". (I think there are many many many many many more good fbbers even though they are not Iris-sized.).

And besides, how much you are able to HOLD the musclemass has quite a lot to do with how much you have it in the start of the prep. And besides, how in hell we do even know how much people loose size in their preps. Maybe Iris (attention. MAYBE) looses even more than someone who have 50% more little legs than she does.

What this has anything to do with trainers? Maybe also genetics... training backrounds... what athletes choose to do ... play part of it. Right?

Just a few points what we should keep in mind when we start to critisize some trainers here online. Hey bring me Kai Greene, he will be good!

And besides, if people complain about certain trainers, hey, let the extreme trainers then bring the girls on stage freaking conditioned and shredded but BIG , round, who also have freaking beautiful frames, balance, harmony, structure, proportions etc! Feel free guys out there! I am always more than thrilled to see perfect physiques. Such a joy for eyes.

HDPhysiques-Joe

These competitors are adults and they can choose which way they do it.

Nobody ever said anything to the contrary. Adults can also choose to smoke, drink, rollerblade without kneepads, etc, etc.... but that doesn't mean it's a smart choice.

Conditioning is one freaking important factor in criteria, EVERYONE can choose THEMSELVES how to achieve the level of conditioning needed.

Of course conditioning is important. VERY important. But it should not be disproportionately awarded more so than muscular development, symmetry, and proportion. Again, it's bodyBUILDING, not bodyWASTING.

Looking at Tampa results, I gotta say it was judges based on total package (including all the factors in physique criteria) ....

If you look at my post, it said the "general trend over the last 5+ years". I was not referring to Tampa, specifically. (although Chris may have been, but I'm not speaking for him).

And yes, we all have our own idea which qualities should be awarded over others. Like at men's tampa pro, ....... snipped a bunch of non-related stuff....

Yes, we all have our own ideas of what should be rewarded, which is why I voice my opinion about Palumbo athletes frequently appearing as if they've shriveled away all their muscle and come in with watery midsections. But while we all have our own ideas, we also have judging criteria by which judges are instructed to judge, and if you look at that criteria, nowhere does it state that superior conditioning should be the PRIMARY factor when evaluating a physique. It refers to muscle SIZE, symmetry and proportion, AND conditioning.... not JUST conditioning only.

Sure I hope girls would pick the trainers who can take them trough preps as healthy as possible, but if we start to worry about others' choices in this life, its tough and after all, not our business.

I'm a fan of the sport. Caring about the athetes in a sport that you're a fan of is what fans do. Baseball fans care about the health and production of Pujols or A-Rod, Football fans care about the health and performance of Peyton Manning and Ray Lewis, etc.... so fans of bodybuilding should be expected to care about the health of it's competitors, and the PERFORMANCE of their phsyiques on stage. While their own personal medical history is not any one fans business, the general concern of the trends in the sport is absolutely within the scope of fans interest/concern.

You dont have to like Palumbo or his methods. Thats fine.

Nor do I need to seek your permission to dislike his methods.

... the trainers tell whats their point and athletes CHOOSE to do so.

And bad choices can be made when 1) - it's shoved down their throat in a bully-like fashion as being the ONLY way to diet, and 2) - well.... you'll have to PM me for #2, because Sioux will throw a fit if truth comes out about certain things....

You're grasping for straws. Chris and I see PLENTY of fbb's, pro and amatuer, offseason. I can say with certainty, that most women do not experience the degree of muscle loss, particularly lower body loss, during contest prep, as DP/keto dieted women do. Is it their choice? Sure it is. It's also my choice to express displeasure about it.

I don't know all who worked with Dave for this show, but Debbie, Nicole & Lisette all did well in Tampa. Many people thought they should have even placed higher.

You can add Emery's name to that list of those who did well for themselves. So what does that make the score? 4 out of 10 out of 28? Hmmmmm?

No, I don't agree that they should have placed higher. For the first time in a long time, I think the judges got it right.

And its not that we don't want to know, Chris, because some of us do know the science. People are just tired of the pissy, whiny, "he's peeing in my ocean and ruining my swim" comments that are now as common, and as inevitable, as the "were those judges watching the same contest? My favorite competitor cleary should have jumped up 7 places and won the show!" kind.

Yes, your girl can chose to not follow the trend and stay the biggest, because she undoubtedly is the biggest... but we've had this particular discussion in person... biggest is not always the best.

people prepped by dave do well in competitions...BUT not because they are so good...they place well because of daves influence to the judges (conflict of interests) ...
ben white had weak legs ...and didnt deserve the win

i could explain why the combination of the palumbo diet together with high cardio does have this effect in shrinking the legs...
but ...first nobody here seems want to know
and second ...why should i...so my girl stays the biggest :D

my legs didnt shrink so like I said it works for some and I am proof of it. I have good symmetry from my upper to lower body. keto works great for me.

well who are you?:DI have done carb cycle before and other prep styles and I can tell you my legs never got deep cuts in them ever...Part of that is genetics so it has nothing to do with keto. My legs were like that since day 1...I always come in conditioned..thats never a problem for me..

I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have heard this particular statement made by competitors and support crew for competitors who don't place well. This statement is pure speculation, with no basis of proof to back it up. Well, I have a counter statement, based on a provable fact, that I hope will help quell the flow somewhat.

If Dave Palumbo has so much influence with the judges, WHY DOES HE NOT HAVE A PRO CARD??? You would think that he would use his "influence" to help himself...

Disproportionately large and ripped is NOT better than proportionately smaller and equally ripped. Don't go there, Chris. Its still friendly discussion, lets keep the derogatory terms out of it.

See what i mean about it being EXHAUSTING to even argue with the guru Joe Bayer. So let's keep beating the dead horse until someone just agrees with joe cause that is what it is all about anyway. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I couldn't care less if there wasn't a single person that agreed with me on DP's diet. I'm just glad that so many do. Due to boards like getbig, unreal, and elsewhere, where true uncensored and non-influenced dialog can occur, the word on "one-size-fits-all" guru's (not just DP, but others too) is getting out, and it's less trendy than it was a year or two ago, to say that you're "prepped by so & so" or "part of team whoever".....

Again, my position has always been - I'm glad that it works for a small handful of people who look good on it. But it doesn't work for many, and shouldnt be shoved down everyone's throat as the only way to do a prep.

Unfortunately, the past half decade or so has rewarded physiques in some shows, that show the telltale sign of ineffective keto diet effects - shredded limbs, but watery backs/midsection and a loss (sometimes severe) loss of muscle mass, particularly lower body due to the excessive cardio to fight the metabolic damage that is occurring. Then the post-contest blow-up and months of battling body image depression..... all this stuff can be avoided by using a diet that is better suited to the individual, as opposed to the one-size-fits-all Palubmo approach.

Hmm,this now may go a bit too off topic (maybe these could be moved to an own thread?), sorry for that but as we are in the topic, I would glad to hear.... could you give example of these many many shows (I assume there is quite a lot as you were talking earlier about a trend) where someone got awarded being like this (watery midsection/back, "fucked lower body" etc... even though there would have been way better in line up?

IMO you gotta award what is in line up... if the awarded one is - looking at the ALL of the qualities of criteria (size, balance, conditioning, proportions, symmetry, stucture, harmony, lines/frames) - best as there is no better, then even an "awful" physique can win... judges gotta pick the winner, 2nd placer any way, no matter how bad physiques all in line up have. And its not any declaration "this is what we want to award". Sure, not all shows have a nearly perfect physique to award, it doesnt mean that trend is award not-good-ones.. And besides, judges gotta judge like the physiques are on stage, not the difference between "Have normally legs" // DP-diet-shrinked-legs.. ;)

I am seriously interested to hear as what I can remember, I have always found a good reasoning why someone has won, and been second etc (doesnt mean I ve agreed to placings totally but understood )... but hey, I am not an expert and that's I would love to hear :)

I don't play in the NFL either, and yet I know a few things about attacking a cover 2 defense. I've never flown a jet plane, yet I can tell you the thrust to weight ratio's of Navy fighter jets. Relevance?

Before you continue to bash every athlete that does work with him

I don't bash specific athletes that work with him. I bash the general trend in judging that leads to these overdieted & stringy physiques that his diet tends to achieve.

So I also guess you are also saying that the folks that work withDave, Erik, Noel, George, and Alifit, Total Package, Jacked up Diva's etc are all a thing in the past and a silly idea to do for competiting?

No, why would I say that? I've never heard a bad thing about any of those folks. My comment was regarding the guru's that don't listen to their clients questions/concerns, and don't adjust to their clients needs - the ones with a "one size fits all" approach. As far as I know, all those people you just mentioned are very responsive to their customer's needs. They don't just say "do it my way, and don't question me".

maybe you just want a little part of this amazing business and success?

I'm not a jerk at all. You just can't tolerate anyone who has an opinion that differs from yours, apparently. (at least when it comes to diets). I've said time and time again, that it's great that Dave's methods work for SOME people. Just because they work for you, though, that doesn't mean they work for everyone else, and it doesn't mean that others can't express their opinion on how that method affects other physiques. Sorry, but that doesn't make me a jerk. And, for the record, I've applauded MANY times, the helpful promotional things he does for the women's side of the sport. I think that is terrific.

The "Mr. Nice Guy" that I am in person is the real me, and I'll say the same thing online as I do in person, and the same thing in person as I do online. I'm comfortable with agreeing to disagree with people, and then remaining friends, or at least cordial, or professional, with other people. I guess you choose not to be that way. When someone disagrees with you, you can't agree to disagree, you get upset, take it personally, and think that person is a jerk? Whatever.

As I've always maintained, I'm a fan of yours Lisa, and I wish you the best.

So many different physiques in this show, and so many competitors! If I were a judge I would probably need a gallon of Red Bull to stay focused after the 10th routine. Isn't it time to add a second weight or height category? The lack of fbb contestants is no longer an excuse and meanwhile little treasures like Jeni Lopez and Nicole Ball don't even enter the finals.
