Hi there! I wanted to go on and start a thread about the revival of American Gladiators. The ratings did better than most people expected as NBC didn't waste anytime in ordering a second season for late spring-early summer (I think Beth "Venom" Horn said it would be aired in May). As we speak NBC is looking at tapes and scores from the open calls and see who will be invited to training camps next week, according to Issac Hinds.

Based on who's you've heard from and what you've seen on the web thus far, who do you think will be a good choice for season two? State the name and position. If it's a Gladiator, what would his/her name be?

I'll post my picks sometime this afternoon.:respect::popcorn:

All AG-related info will be posted here as soon as I get info.

Anywhos, I think the casting calls are finally over and we'll have our new Gladiators (whoever they may be) and 24 new competitors within the next few days, as training camps are supposed to begin Wednsday. With the Arnold Classic out of the way, this will be the talk of the muscle world for a while, I'm assuming.

Monday, May 12, according to the Variety website and USA Today. It will be a two-hour premeire. The week after that, they will air 90 minute shows instead of 60 minutes from earlier this year.

More on that, as well as the NBC lineup for their "All-American Summer" here: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117981858.html?categoryid=14&cs=1&nid=2565 (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117981858.html?categoryid=14&cs=1&nid=2565)

Huh?!?! :banghead: Where did it say that the cast was new? I must have missed that. I don't think it will be completely new as Crush, Siren, Wolf, and Venom are returning. They confirmed it in several interviews. But things can change in an instant these days.

BTW, here's the link to NBC's press release comfirming what I posted her yesterday:

I spent some time with Wauggie on Sunday. While we didn't go into specifics (I was too busy telling her all the problems that need to be fixed if they wanna see a season 3 now that the writers strike is over), it sounded to me as though there's going to be just a couple/few replacement gladiators for each gender.

I agree Cope would be terrific (as would you, alli) - they need some MUSCLE on that show!

UPDATE:

According to what Issac posted several weeks back, the Gladiators will begin their training today (whoever got pass the first boot camp) and the contenders will begin their camp this Saturday. Taping should begin at the end of the month.

Also, the Wall has been put up, and one of the new events is said to be Vertigo, but I can't confirm that just yet.

BTW, everything I'm posting has come from either Hardbody News and the Gladiator Zone boards.

You're not the only ones that feel that way. As of now, I don't know of anyone on the board that is in favor of Erin being a Gladiator. Here's what I posted on the board.

So...for the new Glads, we've got the two winners from Season One, a TNA star, and another female MMA star. The thing that has gotten my a tad upset is what was the purpose of having the tryouts for the Gladiators in so many places then, as neither Erin or Matt tried out to be Gladiators (or at least not to my knowledge). It defeats the purpose of the whole thing. Of course, things can and more than likely will change. I like Matt, Evan, and Monica, and I can't judge Erin because I've not seen what she's done in either boxing or MMA.

Can someone explain it to me?

Am I wrong to think that? :(

FigureRX
03-25-2008, 02:59 AM
Not as a fan of women's physique sports, it's not wrong. They seem to be trying to appeal to popular crossover sports and as a business I guess it is hard to blame them. They will face some tests of popularity as the dramas return and they need to position themselves for the best possible ratings.

Some in our sport who interact with the producer(s) haven't been strong enough in their support for inclusion of female bodybuilders and fitness/figure competitors in the cast. And that has been unfortunate. We certainly are always beating the drum to see more female muscle on the show.

I think we can all agree that Venom and Siren have been awesome representatives of the sport - they have performed extremely well and developed their characters/personas.

Remember we do have some injuries, albeit minor ... so you can probably bet that a Gladiator or a few left out of season two may return for season three.

cray17
03-25-2008, 03:24 AM
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Erin (as I don't know her well enough), but I do hate the direction NBC is heading with the revival. They kept adding date after date for casting...and for what? It feels like a waste of time to me and everyone who went to the castings if NBC was gonna go this route in the first place.

I wish I was more excited about season two, but NBC's new direction has me close to regretting the show was ever brought back in the first place. :(

Not to bash Erin because I don't know her but how can you be an MMA fighter chosen for the show and no one has heard of you. I remember seeing Gina fight and being surprised how badly she beat her competition but Erin seems out of nowhere.

Overall, I think I was expecting far more from the show then I received. But I was impressed with Siren and Fury's performances, although I wish we would've seen more of Siren.

And of course Fury is a personal close friend of mine- one who is just as strong inside as her character outside.:) She truly deserved the spot on the show and I think she looked and acted PHENOMENAL doing it.

OK, I'm a bit lost here. But who are actually the female Gladiators now? We have Erin, Valerie, the winner from last season, and who else? So is Jamie, Beth, and Tanji not returning?

cray17
04-03-2008, 01:16 PM
Erin, Valerie (Siren), Beth (Venom), Gina (Crush), and Monica for sure are part of the season two team. Tanji's got a torn ACL (although I believe it's much better now), so she's out. I'm not entirely sure about Robin (Hellga) and Jamie (Fury).

And there could be room for maybe a couple of more that are hush-hush. Come Monday (or press day), all of our answers and doubts will be laid to rest.

The theme this time around is there is something new every week. It could be new Gladiators, new events, things like that.

Here are two of the four New female Gladiators:

Sorry about the lack of updates on the show. Better late than never, huh!? :p

Anyways, the show's format this week was ALMOST old-school, which was a huge welcome change for some of the people who had just about gave up on the show's chances for survival. It was truly less talk and more action, which is something that I hope the show keeps up. If you get the chance to catch the replay of this week's show, please do so.

If this format proved to be THE winning formula for the rest of the season as far as ratings are concerned, be prepared for a season three sometime in 2009, with tapings happening in a few months (August through October) and tapings in November. (You didn't hear it from me! :D)

The ratings have went up from a two point something to 3.2-3.3, which is not bad.

Now I have some questions for all of you:

Who's your favorite Gladiators from this season?
What's your favorite event/events?
Who/What would you like back for a possible season three?
Who/What would you not mind setting this out next season?
Who, if any, would you like to see make the team for season three and what would their Gladiators names be?
In light of Laila's upcoming baby and Hulk's majorly bad publicity as of late, who would you like te see replace them as hosts?
I'll answer these questions myself soon. ;)

I was just asking someone last night - is this show still on?

There is little to no buzz around the second season and their rankings tanked compared to the first.

Will we see a third and fourth season on network tv?

cray17

As I mentioned, the ratings are improving. Not by leaps and bounds, but they are improving nethertheless. The talks of a thrid season ARE in the works. Whether it happens or not remains to be seen, though.

I'll do my best to keep you all informed on what's going on with AG as of now...that is, if no one else beats me to it, of course.

It's still on Mondays at 8/7 Central, but it's an hour long instead of 90 minutes. Most of the unneccsary crap has been taken out.

BTW, everyone has seen significant drops in their shows this summer for some reason or another. The best show on their timeslot got a 4.5 rating. AG got 3.2, ranked fourth, but could have been thrid easily. The ratings were that close.

Yeah - I actually heard the rating were dropping, but last thing I heard was that they will do season 3. I also hope it doesn't completely tank for all the fitness girls either.

I like watching Crush and Phoenix (Jen) the best. I met Jen at the ON/ABB booth, at the Arnold, this year (she does fitness modeling for them). She has a really great, outgoing personality and is perfect for a career in acting (long after AG). I think I enjoyed watching Crush fights, even better than her take downs on AG... she is no joke!

They've actually improved, yet they are a far cry from season one's numbers.

It looks like Season 3 could very well be a reality, but like I do for practically everything else, I take the "wait and see" approach. Here's what the NBC site has posted:

(The following is from http://www.nbc.com/Casting, on the American Gladiators section)

The hit competition series, with hosts Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali, is NOW CASTING SEASON THREE!

We are looking for weekend warrior types that are BIG, bad, and athletic. If you think you have the heart, skills, and desire to COMPETE then we want to see you at THE GLADIATOR ARENA!

http://www.nbc.com/American_Gladiators/casting/index.shtml (It's basic info, but not too much detail)

Expect more info if this informations holds up...

1. Crush and Wolf. If you mean the new guys, it's early, we don't know 'em all yet. :) But I like Jet and Phoenix, Panther looks cool to, and also Hurricane.
But of course I love Toa, Justice, Titan, Venom and Siren too.
2. Joust, Pyramid.
3. I want Fury and Mayhem back!
4. If you mean who/what I don't want to see again: Steel, Helga, and I don't think we need Rocket or Beast.
5. Not sure yet.
6. I want Hulk to stay. Laila's replacement? I don't have a clue. :)

As I mentioned, the ratings are improving. Not by leaps and bounds, but they are improving nethertheless.
The ratings may be improving, but the show gets worse with each broadcast.

They may have star power, but both are horrible hosts. Plus, whoever writes their copy really needs to be replaced...it's agonizing to listen to that stuff.

Oh, and even though Laila was checking me out that day, I assure you that the baby is not mine. :D
