Thanks for posting this! I have been trying to find info on this show, but haven't had any luck.
Are you competing? I will most likely be there to watch since it's not too far of a drive.

Thanks for the details, nice to have the state show in my area again. I hope the new chairman will reinvigorate the VA NPC, a web site would be a nice start.

Maryann - I'm an NPC Judge in VA, so they sent us all the flier about 2 weeks ago. I may be there judging, but not sure yet.

Tom - I'm hoping to help build VA back up. Marvin and Heidi are doing a good job in their first year, but it will take a while I think. I would LOVE to see a website too. You should email them and suggest it!

Definitely call/email Heidi. I'm not sure of what's down in that area. There's a chance Celeste and/or Tanya will be there.

Oh wow! I used to train there, from about 2002-2004, then switched to Sport & Health and now I'm at the new Powerhouse.

Are you training for anything right now?

I just competed in the North American a month ago, so it's offseason for me! :awesome: I'm working on adding some more mass for 2009- I'm thinking Jr. Nats.

Any shows for you the rest of the year?

I've heard nice things about you from several people. :)

My wife used to train at that gym from 99-04 (04 is when we moved back to St. Louis). It was a much better gym before they moved to that current location with the "ghey" color scheme. All that pastel shit in a GYM???? Blah.

Were you around there when she was there? I know Alyssa was!

Do you take 123 to Old Bridge? Burke to Lake Ridge isn't exactly an easy commute, especially during the awesome DC "rush hour" (5am-10am, and 2pm-7pm). LOL

They've remodeled the gym...no more pastels. I moved here in Jan. of '07, so I wasn't there when your wife and Alyssa were.
Yup, that's the way I go. Actually, the traffic isn't ever too bad, but I usually train around 7PM. The just opened a Gold's right by me, so I may join there, but I like to stay away from the college crowd.

Ahh, that's good to hear about the remodeling. It was never to be taken seriously as a bodybuilders gym, IMO, back in the pastel days. lol

I used to think the traffic wasn't that bad either, when I was living there. But after being back in St. Louis for the last 4 years, I could never go back to living in the DC area and the hell traffic. Life is too short to be wasting it sitting in traffic! Good to hear 123 isn't too bad for you, though. I know they were widening it a bit back when we left, so I guess that extra lane all the way down to near the Occoquan Bridge is a lot of help. It used to be one lane all the way from Occoquan to Fairfax.

Not me either. Did Pittsburgh, Jr USA and Jr Nats this year. Next year, I might do the same three, but that's tentative.

Yeah, traffic here is horrible but luckily as a trainer I can schedule around it, plus I work only 6 miles from my house.

Traffic in the DC area gets worse every year. It takes me 2 and a half hours to drive from Silver Spring,Md to Lansdowne in Loudon County,Va. in the morning. I can swing there in about 1 hour in the afternoon.

Heather's doing fine. She checks in here every once in a while. I'll pass along your kind words. She was happy that she got to see your routine on the Jr Nats DVD that we just got a few weeks ago. Way to go!

6 miles? Not bad at all. Hard to do much more than that around DC! I don't miss that traffic AT ALL!

Damn, Ibarra. That IS ridiculous. I'm quite familiar with that route as well, having been all over the beltway and Rt 7 for my job back in the day. Also, I used to play a lot of gigs at Landsdowne with the band I was in back in 2000-03. Small world.

It's also unpredictable. I have a 9 mile afternoon commute down I-295 to the Inner Loop of the Beltway and across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge that can take 10 minutes, or an hour and a half. It's just ridiculous.

Hey guys!! I grew up in Woodbridge graduated high school Potomac Senior High. I live in Va. Beach now-Woodbridge has grown soooo much! I miss it at times but of course not the Beltway. I remember driving in that crap daily to get to Arlington for work.
It is nice to have the NPC back in Virginia...hopefully it will start growing in support...The Lenda Murray was a nice show looking forward to cheering everyone on for the NPC Va. State!! Good luck!!:waving::waving:

Hi, Maria! A cousin of mine lives in Virginia Beach. Hope you like the community and the area.

As for Woodbridge, traffic up and down I-95 in that area is a daily problem. I visited Marine Corps University in Quantico last month to tour their library and sit in on a Command and Staff College seminar, and they made sure I got out the gate before traffic started to build up.

Hi Allen! I've been in Va. Beach for over 10 years now and I do love it here. At times, I do miss having access to a major city like DC.
Ahhh...Quantico...I actually grew up a few miles from there. Devil Dogs...they're a crazy bunch of people!! I use to run with the Hash Hash Harriers, a running club, which is comprised mostly of marines and their families. Good Times:awesome:

My family still lives up there and I visit often.

Hi Maria! Glad you're able to get back to the area from time to time. Hope that you're able to drive in and out for your visits when the traffic is not at its worst. :)

I've been in Alexandria for two and half years - I'm off U.S. 1 going toward Fort Belvoir. Work at the Navy Yard, and commute via the Wilson Bridge and I-295. My job is at the Naval Historical Center; first I was an archivist there and now I'm a reference librarian. From 1998 to 2006 I was in California, and I was born and grew up in the Atlanta area.

Hash Hash Harriers! :) Must be aviator types! :p The head of reference at the library of Marine Corps University runs with officers attending the Command and Staff College, and she and I are always joshing each other about how loudly we can yell "Oooh-rahhh!!!" and reminiscing about episodes of Magnum P.I. :p I was in the Army, but I always get a big kick out of Marine esprit de corps.

Any plans to do some shoots or take contest photos?I'd like to show some support for the show and will probably just buy a ticket and bring my camera. One competitor already contacted me about a shoot and I need to get back to her, but the weather is a bit unpredictable then so we will see.

Bringing back Lenda's show and the state show is great for the region, but I'll take this as a rebuilding year for NPC VA. Hopefully they will be able to get these shows on the NPC calendar early next year and give everybody a chance to plan.

Okay, I'll check your website a suitable time interval after the show to see what you were able to get. Hopefully the Virginia NPC will get back on its feet next year. Best of luck with the weather for your shoot. :)

Any plans to travel to Atlanta for the Nationals?

Yikes, I am very slow processing my contest pics and will only fall further behind as I focus my work flow more on individual shoots. I still have a pretty high volume of contest pics going back to the Jr USAs to post as free updates on my site, so that probably isn't the best place to see anything new.

I will be in Atlanta and will start pestering ladies about shoots soon.

The NPC in Virginia has unfortunately suffered from uninspired leadership until recently. It will take awhile to get Virginia competitions up to a decent level of participation.

OK...i know back in 2000 I competed at the NPC VA/Carolina Classic...it was in Raleigh, NC. I can't remember the promoters but it was on the NC calendar that one year and never returned.

Just surprised to hear that when NC's last show was huge....just assumed it would be like that for most states w/ Nats being so close.

Yeah....NC NPC is pretty strong, there's a new show that doesn't do too well, but most of the other shows do pretty well. The last show on the calendar had 129 competitors.

From the time I started going to shows 10 years ago until a year or two after I moved from Laurel MD to Virginia Beach there were always a few great shows within driving range every year, now not so much. The promoter for this past VA/DC show gave me a hard time about taking pictures from the audience so I doubt I'll support his future shows.

Well, that explains alot I guess. There were several ppl from VA at NC's last show...there were even ppl from W.VA...I was amazed at how far ppl will travel for a show that's not a Pro qual.
