View Full Version : Countdown to 2009 Arnold Classic

Starting a 2009 Arnold thread countdown. One of the best shows going for marketing yourself, networking, and partying..

As I have told people in the past, if you want to attend this show BOOK A ROOM NOW. Rooms go very fast and you can always cancel the room. Most places only require 48-72 hour cancel times.

Tickets, flights, etc are the easy part, but hotel rooms are booked months in advance due to so many people coming into a small city where the show is.

If not done early, you will end up at one of the hotels out by the airport, and that's a long expensive cab ride.

Those looking for info on the show:

See you all there!

I don't think I'll be able to make it this year, with my job situation and all. However, ditto to Will's advice. MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS NOW, or pay the price later!! If I don't make it, I hope that everyone has a great time!!

Personally, I always want to stay where the action is and be a walk or short cab ride to the venue. There are free shuttle buses that run from the major down town hotels all day long to the venue, so no having to deal with driving, parking, etc. Not the end of the world to rent a car and stay at a hotel outside the city, but it's a lot more fun and convenient staying downtown. Stay at the Capitol Square Hyatt and you will often see Arnold walk by, etc. I just booked a room here:

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/cmhbr-the-columbus-a-renaissance-hotel/

I like that hotel. They are almost fully booked for the show BTW.

Woo-hoo!
Let's get the buzz going...I'm excited to attend the expo again!
I was a first time attender and competitor last year, so I know what to expect this time....:D
I actaully stayed outside the city and it was nice to be a part of the action and then leave at the end of the day.
Who else is competing?

Yeah, I try to get as close to the expo as I can. Tip for others: if you do have to come in to the venue from a distance, the easiest thing to do is to get a cab ride or carpool to the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum and catch the free shuttles from there to the expo. Or, if you are driving yourself, park at the Coliseum for the day and then take the shuttle. It will save you a lot of money and the hassle of having to find a parking garage close to the expo. I WISH that I was able to book a hotel room in the Hyatt, but it's too expensive for me.

Yup, they were down to the last few when I booked. People never believe me when I tell them all the in town hotels book up many months in advance. Start calling around!

I stayed at the Courtyard on Spring St. 5-8 minute walk from the Expo...10-15 minutes when the wind was blowing really hard!!! Rooms were reasonable..$179/night. A few friends had cheaper rooms but they paid the difference taking cabs 2x a day back/forth to the expo.

For those who are attending the Arnold and are also wanting to stay on track in terms of diet during contest prep, I would recommend checking out the Extended Stay America hotels in the Columbus area. All of them are on the outskirts of the city, so you'll either have to get a cab, drive yourself or find someone to carpool to the venue. However, all of them feature fully equipped kitchens (complete with fridge, microwave and stovetop) and all of them have very good prices (range is from $53/night to $120/night for the Arnold weekend). Check it out!! Here is the website:

What is the actual host hotel? There are about 50 hotels listed on the web site.

As far as I know, same as always, the Doubletree. Of course that will have been booked up a loooooooooooong time ago. Unless you pull some strings some place.:o

Seriously, I have no idea why the host hotels are not ALWAYS rooms with kitchens. I think The Jacksonville Pro show's host hotel was with rooms with kitchen, which makes sense, Mr Olympia promoted it. I always stay at Extended Stay, it is worth the travel to have your food.

They have a block for the Arnold amateur bodybuilding contest, $164 a night plus tax. You have to call, these rooms aren't available online.

Hi all,

Since this is one of the first figure/ fitness/ bb shows of the year do you think the new IFBB rules will be in effect?

By this I mean will we only be required to wear our 2 piece suits?

If anyone has the inside scoop please post it here...I'm sure there are lots of other gals wondering the same thing.

Thanks.

This show is the only time I get to see some of my peeps in the business. This will be my 16th year in a row attending this show, and I never get tired of going. We are less than 3 hours away (DETROIT), so we usually stay on Dublin / Grandeville rd. Plenty of hotels, restaurants, strips, malls, and gyms in the area.

If you go tho the Arnold Classic Website there are a list of local hotels. I found an extremely reasonable room at the Hawthorn Suites North, complete w.kitchen for about 80 bucks a night, and only 8.5 miles from the convention hall.
