2008 IFBB Arnold Amateur lightweight champ Joanne Stewart is unlikely to defend her title...............

However this year, it is not as important as it now looks unlikely that I am doing the Arnold. I have made some majordecisions and those decisions have affected my ability to do the Arnold.But hey, that is ok. I am really happy with what I achieved at my last events and the Arnold would of been absolutely amazing to do again but this one, I just cannot do.. when I do an event, I need to be able to do it 100%. I would find it almost impossible to put in 100% into this one, so well - no good attempting mission impossible.

So my mind is now focused on other things and I shall just get on and do what I have to do. Still training hard and I shall work on getting prepared for something else later on the in year, perhaps in the Pro Level..

That's exactly why I never did fitness. But I found a cheer music store on line where my music cost me $8!! Sliced with sound effects ready to go. Nicole Duncan does chorography for much less than others and no more one piece....... That and I hated having zero control over my placing in figure... Oh yeah and there is fraction of the girls in fitness that are in figure = better odds.

When I bought it I got a 1min cut, 1:30 cut and a 2 min cut all for 8 bucks!!!

Point-of-information:

If you look across the IFBB/NPC landscape, overall champions of most amateur events do NOT attempt to defend their titles.

The rationale is that after you've won a show, then the only place you can go from there is down.

Point-of-information:

Many from outside of the USA are more interested in winning amateur titles, than turning pro. Anyways Joanne did not win the overall, she won the lightweight class.

Allison is fighting for that pro card, but she is Canadian and has only one opportunity to turn pro. She will again compete at the CBBF Fitness & Figure Nationals in 09. She has every right to compete at the Arnold Amateur and defend her title.

How long are the fitness routines? What's your time cut-off?

Thanks Maryann! Like Christina Aguilera says - "It keeps gettin' better"! I've been working on really improving my routine skills in the offseason.

The fitness routines are 2 minutes long. Funny thing though, they weren't supposed to start my music until after I was onstage. The already had the music going, the emcee was babbling on and on, and I had to run out and get going. Not my best performance, lol!

2 - 6pm Competitor Check-In - Wayne Brehm Room (Veterans Memorial)
FITNESS & FIGURE COMPETITORS are required to check in with competition officials Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Veterans Memorial, Wayne Brehm Room, from 2:00pm to 6:00 pm. U.S. competitors (N.P.C.) will need to provide their confirmation for registration and their NPC card at that time. NPC officials will be on hand in the event that competitors are in need of purchasing their NPC Membership. International Amateur Athletes must provide confirmation for registration with an official letter of approval from their National Federation with proof of membership.
All Fitness & Figure competitors will be provided with numbers and schedule of events. Fitness competitors required to submit music at this time on CD only.

7:00 pm Prejudging for all womens's fitness and figure competitors in the Auditorium
Fitness Routine Round - Auditorium (Veterans Memorial Main Stage)

Class # of Competitors Approx. Time
Short -Up to and including 5'-4"
Medium - Over 5'-4" and up to and including 5'-6"
Tall - Over 5'-6"

Figure One Piece Round- Auditorium (Veterans Memorial Main Stage)
No competitor will do an individual presentation. Competitors will come out in small groups of six or seven at one time and go through the mandatory poses. At the conclusion of that assessment they will again take the stage as a group and be separated for comparisons.

MEN'S & WOMEN'S BODYBUILDING FINAL CHECK-IN AND WEIGH-IN
Early check-in and weigh-ins are available to all male and female bodybuilders starting at 2:00 p.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Veterans Memorial Hall, Wayne Brehm Room. FINAL WEIGH-INS will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 in the same location from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. with the competitors meeting to follow.

9:00 am Women's Bodybuilding Prejudging - Main Stage (Veterans Memorial)
No competitor will do 60 free posing round. Competitors will come out in small groups of six or seven at one time and go through the symmetry round then move right to the comparison round.

Lightweight: up to and including 125 lbs
Middleweight: over 125 and up to 140 lbs
Heavyweight: over 140 lbs

Men's Bodybuilding Prejudging - Main Stage (Veterans Memorial)

Bantamweight: up to and including 143 1/4 lbs
Lightweight: over 143 1/4 lbs. and up to 154 1/4 lbs.
Welterweight: over 154 1/4 lbs. and up to 165 1/4 lbs.

Middleweight: over 165 1/4 lbs. and up to 176 1/4 lbs.
Light-Heavyweight: over 176 1/4 lbs. and up to 198 1/4 lbs.
Heavyweight: over 198 1/4 lbs. and up to 225 1/4 lbs.

Announcement of the top five competitors in each class at the conclusion of the women and mens prejudging in the main auditorium at Veterans Memorial..

The finals and awards for Male and Female bodybuilding fitness and figure competitions will take place on the main Expo stage in the Columbus Convention Center on Saturday, March 7, 2009. The top 5 athletes in each class will need to be present with routine music by 8:30 a.m at the main Expo stage inside the Columbus Convention Center

8:00 am The top five in each men's and women's bodybuilding classes and the top ten in each fitness and figure class must be in attendance room D130 inside the Columbus Convention Center. Women and men bodybuilders must bring their music.

Hi Soiux County lovers... I am doing the Arnold - Yeahha.!!!! I have overcome a few life probs (happens sometimes to us all) and have never stopped training for the Arnold and are all go for it now.
so 10 weeks out all is looking good and on target again., Most likely be in the middle weights 2009 as i lost a little size last year coming in light weight..

Looking forward to learning all the class competitors for the Arnold and really looking forward to attending this hyped up competition again.

have a great xmas you all...... It is summer in NZ and we are expecting a hot day tomorrow.

- I'm completely on my prep now! In between the contests I follow an off-season diet which is higher in the calories than in the prep. One day a week, there is room left for snacking time. Now I eat completely clean to get my best shape for the Arnold Amateur Show. I started my real prep in the middle of December and will continue that until March, so it will be about 11 weeks.

10. Could you tell more about your plans, thoughts and feelings concerning becoming Arnold Amateur show? What kind of contest do you expect and what kind of goals do you have?

- I'm very excited about the Arnold Amateur Show! When I did my first contest, I'd never ever thought to participate in the Arnold amateur once. It's a dream coming true! I'm very happy and will do my very best! I expect it to be an experience of my life, I'll never forget it, I'm sure of that. My goal at the Arnold Amateur Show is to end up in the finals.

11. You are pretty muscular and always in great condition at shows. At the same time in the States they have now awarded smaller and not so hard girls. Have you thought about this now when you are headed to Arnold Amateur? What kind of package you will present there?

- Liona Bergmann is keeping a good eye on my shape. The package I will bring on stage at the Arnold Amateur, stays as a surprise until that day.

The following is a tentative schedule of events for the 2009 Arnold Amateur IFBB International Championships. Exact times will be provided in confirmation materials you will receive once your registration has been accepted and all entries are finalized.

Each competitor will be provided with a wrist band at the competitor check in, good for admission into the Arnold Fitness Expo from March 5 - March 8, 2009. Be sure to have this wrist band if you are in the finals on Saturday morning March 7, 2009. Expo officials will not permit you into the Expo area without your wrist band.

For those of you with tanning or makeup needs, contact Jan Tana at www.jantana.com to book an appointment. We'll have competitor staff back stage to assist you with all your competition needs. No spray tanning will be done at the venue, so be sure to book your appointments accordingly.

NO TRAINERS will be permitted in the back stage area. Non compliance with this rule will result in your disqualification and possible suspension.

We hope your preparations for this years event are going well and look forward to seeing you here in Columbus

NO LATE CHECK-IN! In the event that you miss the required check-in time, without prior notification to the event promoters, you will forfeit your right to compete.

FITNES, FIGURE & BIKINI COMPETITORS are required to check in with competition officials Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Veterans Memorial, Wayne Brehm Room, from 2:00pm to 6:00 pm. U.S. competitors (N.P.C.) will need to provide their confirmation for registration and their NPC card at that time. NPC officials will be on hand in the event that competitors are in need of purchasing their NPC Membership. International Amateur Athletes must provide confirmation for registration with an official letter of approval from their National Federation with proof of membership.
All Fitness & Figure competitors will be provided with numbers and schedule of events. Fitness competitors required to submit music at this time on CD only.

7:00 pm Prejudging for all womens's fitness, figure and bikini competitors in the Auditorium Fitness Routine Round - Auditorium (Veteranuditoris Memorial Main Stage)

Short -Up to and including 5'-4"
Medium - Over 5'-4" and up to and including 5'-6"
Tall - Over 5'-6"

IFBB.com informs..

The IFBB Amateur Championships, organized in cooperation with NPC and Lorimer Productions, will hold its second international edition, with a nice increase of participating countries and athletes.

Athletes from over 30 countries will meet there to compete in male and female bodybuilding, fitness and bodyfitness events.

The inscriptions are still open until January 30th.

A friend of mine who is an international competitor emailed me this yesterday:

"I have a feeling that they might be giving the international competitors more time as there was a mix up in our registration rules. Apparently each country's President of their own Federation has to do the application and not the individual competitors themselves."

This is probably why they extended the deadline to Jan 31st.

Thanks for the excitement! I have to say I'm very relieved. Dolores, I could kiss you for posting that. I wasn't planning on looking at the website again until the 31st. Now I can stop running to my mailbox everyday and focus more on running through my routine over and over!

I'm burned out from doing 5 shows last year & need a longer break. Plus, I figured since there is no pro card offered it wasn't a good strategy to do this show. I'll wait for Canadian Nationals & North Americans.

She's competing in fitness at the Arnold Amateur.

My physique is still changing on a weekly basis. I have put on size, and well, am trying to not come in too lean, as I feel I am ahead of schedule this year. I did 46 days of dieting for the Arnold last year, and this year I am doing 60 days.

I wanted to let everyone know that I have to withdraw from the Arnold Amateur Fitness. I am very very sad about this, but have no choice. I injured my neck pretty badly 3 weeks ago and had to spend 2 weeks out of the gym laid up in bed. Unfortunately, the missed time set me back in my contest prep. to the point where I do not feel comfortable stepping onstage. I am coming back strong after rehabbing the injury and I am looking forward to getting back onstage this spring. I'll be updating my journal frequently and will post more there.

Wanted to let everyone know in this thread too I'll be there Saturday in the expo with two emergency suits in my car in case anyone needs to rent one!!! Stacey Widger and Tina Ellison are both doing the Arnold amateur and both of them know how to contact me...so no one hesitate to gimme a call if you have a suit situation!!! Crap happens, but lets hope it doesn't!!!

No invites on the amateur level....you just have to send your application b4 the cut off date. I do know of a friend who applied w/ the 1st amateur not to get accepted.

thanks diva. interesting for one not to get accepted. it was difficult to find the information on the website. there's a lot going on the weekend of the Arnold. i am sure that is one competitive show!

Indeed it is. It gets tougher each year. I expect the winners to turn pro later this year.

I just wanted to wish everyone competing good luck and tell you to have fun and enjoy yourselves. You did all the work so enjoy it now. If I can get away from set up at the expo I want to come watch but if not my thoughts are with you anyway. :respect:

The NPC just hasn't sanctioned this show to be a Pro-Qual.

This is only the 3rd year. I'm sure it's only a matter of time...maybe similar to the North American where int'l competitors can receive their pro card at the Arnold.

I had a great time last year!

I just wanted to say GOOD LUCK to everyone this weekend!!! If you havent competed in the AC yet, you are gonna have a BLAST!!!! It was the most fun and exciting event of my competition history last year! I SO WISH I was going this year, but unfortunately I will not! Hopefully, I will see some of you again soon if I can ever get my butt in gear for competition again!!!!

Speaking of the AA, I wanted to give a shout to two ladies that are in the show this year, Stacey Widger and Tina Ellison. Tina will be wearing a suit that I did stonework for, it's quite unique!

I'm amped!

Some of the best bodybuilders are amateurs and do not want to become profssionals - and not all professionals are very good bodybuilders.

There is not many reasons to become "professional" in bodybuilding.

Keep eye on Danish girl Kristina Dybdahl in class D, she will be in awesome condition. I love her physique! Interesting name in class B, 22 years old Polish girl Agata Radziwoniuk, who have won both European and World Championships in juniors and also placed in top 6 in Women's European Championships.
