Amazon Women

Airs April 22 at 10:00 PM ET
Synopsis:

Since the beginning of time, the male physique - not the female body - is what we imagine decorated with large, hard muscles. But today everything has changed. You might find more muscled babes than hulking he-men at the gym.

“Amazon Women” combine bulging biceps with a pin-up sexiness that turn the question of what is feminine upside down.

Meet 4 muscle babes as they train, compete, and work at becoming the most chiseled, and sexy female bodybuilders.

Dr. Dena Westerfield is a champion bodybuilder and a doctor of chiropractic medicine. She also has an alter ego called Dr. Sexy who enjoys dressing up in barely nothing outfits and posing for photos on her website.

Emery Miller was an overweight married mom who pushed herself past just getting in shape to become a muscle goddess. With her husband by her side, Emery has become a personal trainer and bicep babe.

Joan Lopez is a professional body builder and married mother of three. She frequently puts younger women to shame with her chiseled physique. She also must deal with her husband who does not like her muscled body.

Lauren Powers has turned her massive body into a mini-empire of muscles. From web cam shows that cater to muscle worship fetishists, to personal wrestling sessions with men half her size.

I'm hoping this is a positive representation.

Joan Lopez story looks to be interesting to me, as there is a notorious either lack of support or great support from significant others.

So far it's ok but the jury is still out. It portrays some aspects I can't stand, but it is only fair to display the bad with the good.

I thought they did a pretty good job with the show! They didn't portray fbbs as one specific stereotype, which I thought was cool. The women they chose all represent the sport and lifestyle in a different way.

Dena Westerfield rocks!!! :awesome:

I thought the show was good. I especially enjoyed Emery and her husband's segment. :)

I know the muscle worshiping makes many uncomfortable, but it is a reality.

Emery,

I would love to read your thoughts about this show?

Not bad. I also like that they covered different parts of the female bodybuilding world instead of focusing on one particular part. Some I enjoyed, some I didn't, but overall I think Women's Entertainment Television did a good job tonight.

I hope they (or someone) does a similar show, but this time cover an athlete from all THREE categories (FBB, fitness, and figure).

I started watching the show, but my allergy medicine got the best of me and I fell asleep.

Although I'm uncomfortable with the muscle worship, it's just something some folks love and that's okay. It's a big world with lots of different people who have lots of different likes and dislikes. I will try to watch the program when it's showng again so I can see the whole thing.

:respect: I find it ironic that this thread is positioned just below the one
discussing Chemical Pink(CP). CP involves a totally negative aspects of
being a FBB. This show provided a much more balanced view. The nega-
tive aspects were shown but also the positives. Emery and her husband's
portrayal was especially positive. Dena's segment was the most interest-
ing to me. Although she very much seems to love the sport, she sacrifices
part of her personal life in order to pursue it on such a high level. This is
really no different than the sacrifices elite level atheletes make in their
lives, ie. gymnasts etc. Bravo!:awesome:

I thought the show was done well and showed the ladies in a very postive light. The worship stuff had to be in there cause the show is called "The Secret Lives of Women" and that stuff is apart of what some of them. Though that guy with Lauren made we want to hit the forward button and skip that part. Didn't know that they did lie detector tests at shows, do all shows require that?

Lie detector is done at all of the DRUG FREE shows..as well as some to urine tests. The WNBF did urine tests..which I think is awesome!! I was a WNBF Pro BB back in 93, 94 95..before I got so sick..but yes lie detectors are a must in the drug free shows..but some people can get around them!!

First let me thank everyone who watched the show & for all of the gracious comments that you have afforded me & my husband thereafter.

My reasons for agreeing to do the show were, as I suspect, the same as for any other FBB who has taken on the media…to gain some recognition and more importantly to try to dispel some of the myths that constantly circle our sport like vultures over a fresh kill. Still it is a HUGE decision to make having witnessed the media slaughters that have preceded “Secret Lives of Women-Amazon Women.”

I knew in my heart that I would never do anything to endanger our sport or worsen an already misguided public opinion. I knew that if I could just be given a few solid moments that I could change some people’s thoughts, but I also knew that others before me had tried and had been betrayed by the networks and by editors with an agenda who had no intention of ever treating us with dignity and respect.

It was a scary thought that I might become one of the girls who began with good intentions only to have her words twisted and mangled and to ultimately be chastised or hated by those persons she set out to represent for the good. It was not without trepidation that I set myself and my family up for public scrutiny but I ultimately agreed because Pangolin Pictures assured me that we would be treated well & that the subject matter was to be presented in a positive light. They explained to me that it is the goal of the Women’s Entertainment Channel to empower women in all their endeavors. I would have to wait & see.

Me and my families part in the show was three fold; to show an FBB off-season so that people could see that we do not always have gaunt & drawn faces (although they cut that discussion out), to show that we still lead normal lives with families, jobs & children, and finally to show that men still see us as attractive and sexy women, not in spite of, but because of the muscle we have worked so hard to develop.

Although I only have one child (I assumed the second child they referred to was my dog) I think that WE did a remarkable job of representing all of us fairly. I couldn’t be more delighted that they covered the ENTIRE sport and all of its sidelines completely and without bias. I know that some people were not happy that they did discuss the “sessions” aspect of the sport but it IS very much a sideline of this sport whether people like it or not and I believe that WE did a very good job of portraying it as non-sleazy. If anyone had seen the “Fetish” episode two weeks prior, that series also had a woman who wrestles men for money & she did NOT have a nice physique and they showed her cellulite covered fanny during a face sitting session…up close. Trust me…we came off looking great!!!

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the session’s thing even though I don’t do that. It only looks bad if we act guilty about it and try to hide things. Then people wonder what’s so bad that we need to hide. There can be no scandals if there are no secrets. I do the web cam thing and none of my family has a problem with it (including my Grandma or my 18 year old daughter) so please don’t be upset that they discussed this very real part of our sport. Turn the lights on & the monster under the bed goes away.

As for the rest of the show, there are so many things that had to be cut out due to time constraints. I know that Pangolin Pictures left my home with 12 hours of film just from us alone; interviews, me training a client, answering fan mail, me discussing all the wonderfully positive reactions I’ve had from strangers and my family playing board games. I bet there was a lot of great stuff from the other 3 girls that had to be cut out as well and I only wish that they had had time to cover it all.

In the end I am so happy that I chose to do the show and that I got to share the screen with three other phenomenal women and athletes. I am honored to have been a part of such a fantastic event and I hope that they also have no regrets.

Thank you all again for all of your continuing support.

Emery
