Jen Hendershott received this email from Betty Pariso:
Quote:
I want to relay a story to you that happened this weekend at the Europa Show involving the Pro Fitness ladies.
On Saturday late afternoon one of my NPC Fitness/Figure competitors came to me with tears in her eyes, and told me that she would not be able to compete in the NPC Finals. I asked her why, assuming that she must not be feeling well or something, her answer was that her truck was broken into and her suitcase was stolen with everything she needed to compete. She was competing in both the Figure and Fitness division.
I instantly assured her that we could fix this...not to worry! A moment later I was thinking, oh no, she's in Fitness and doesn't have an outfit or shoes. Just about that time the Pro Fitness ladies were coming off stage...I called them all over and shared with them the situation. The result brought tears to my eyes. They gathered around my NPC gal and acted like "big sisters". They told her not to cry and started sizing her up to see whose suits and fitness outfit might fit her the best. They put their arms around her and took her back to the dressing room to get her outfitted.
Later that evening I saw her just as she was about to go on in the Fitness routine division. She looked great in her outfit and she even had sneakers that fit! With tears in her eyes, she thank me over and over for saving her big night, of course we know it was the Pro Fitness ladies that came to the rescue.
I only know the name of one of the ladies who helped...Traci Redding, but she mentioned that others gave their suits and helped as well, and I want them to know how appreciative I am as well as the NPC competitor.
I would appreciate it if you could post this somewhere to let the ladies know how far a little kindness goes.
Sincerely,
Betty

Hey Everyone!
Just to update you on the results of my show... I ended up placing in the bottom part of the 7 girls that competed in fitness and I am sure the bottom of the Figure A class. There are very clear reasons to me why that happened. 1: My body was so jacked up with water by the time the routine round was over that I looked terrible in the one piece round. 2: I need better suits (meaning more time to save money to invest in them) 3: I need to learn more strength moves/improve on the mandatories 4: I will incorporate more gymnastics in my routine. I made it as simple as possible so I wouldnt get psyched out and be afraid of that floor...
Also, I learned to keep my suitcase with me at ALL TIMES! My suitcase got STOLEN after the pre-judging and before the night show. It has EVERYTHING in it. My routine outfit, all my suits, my shoes, makeup, jewelry, hair stuff...everything. It was stolen out of the back of my boyfriends truck while we were eating lunch. I talked to Betty Pariso and she SAVED ME! She gathered all of the Pro Fitness competitors around and told them what happened to me and they all lent me everything I needed! HUGE thank yous to Susan Groscheck, Tracy Redding, Flora August and LeslieRae Newton! You ladies saved me! It was a very drama filled day but oh so worth it! I have decided I am going to take a full year to figure out my body, work on my strength moves, and save as much money a possible! I have so much to look forward to, I am supposed to be having a photo shoot with Dan Ray tomorrow and thanks to my amazing boyfriend and GymDiva I am going to be MD Babe of the Month! Thank you all again for the advice and following me on my first competition journey. I am going to be continuing to post and follow these forums!
All my love...
~Wendy

Thats one of the most heartwarming things I've heard of in a long time! These fitness pros should be commended for their kindness! With all the bickering going on about this show (lighting, FBB's, placings ect..) its good to hear a story like this!

I exect nothing less...
Everytime I talk to a competitor I hear a story of how one helps another out. I have worked back stage at a beauty pagent and I have seen that ugliness up front and personal.
On the flip side of that you have male and female competitors. At the show last weekend I was able see to everyone helping one another. Thats just one of the many reasons why I love this sport.
To those who helped her you are heroes and you each deserve an award. Thank you for making this woman's night a great experience. She did not finish as high as she wanted but you all made her night.
Thank you.

I wanted to say that all of us girls coming together to help her out was the easy part!! Wendy is the sweetest girl and her ability to overcome such a difficult obstacle is what I totally respect and I hope that she continues to have such drive and determination!! A positive attidude at such a stressful time is hard to have and she definitely displayed positivity and passion, only if we all had that in us imagine what we would be capable of!! She looked great in my two piece and I was honored to share it with her!! Keep it up Wendy!!! Very proud of you!!

Tracie,
Been a fan for a minute, and its nice to see you (and the rest of the ladies) are not only tops in the world of Fitness but true champions in character. It would have been one thing to help another pro but you all went above and beyond for some one who you didn't even know.
I judge people on how they treat people on how they treat others they don't have to be nice to. I hope I have the honor of meeting you one day and shaking each of your hands.
Whats the point in being the best if you don't or won't help others out?

One more thing...
I want to say that I think Wendy displayed a lot of courage. If she would have went home after getting everything stolen no one would say anything ill about her. But she stayed and competed.
Well done Wendy. I see a future pro in the making.

Thank you all so much for your words of encouragement! It was truly amazing to have all of the Pros truly care about making sure that I had everything that I needed. Of course a HUGE thank you goes to Traci Redding for her gorgeous two-piece& dance shoes, but please also recognize Leslie Rae Newton for lending me her routine outfit, (she is so tall and beautiful I was lucky that it even fit me let alone go with my routine!) I believe it was Susan Groshek that lent me jewelry, an NPC figure competitor Flora August lent me her one piece just in case I needed it, and J Zubire that had her husband come all the way from their hotel with her bag so I could wear her posing heels. And there couldnt have been one single fitness Pro competitor that didnt ask me if I had everything I needed to see if they could also lend me something. I was so sad having to tell Betty Pariso I would be unable to finish the competition but as soon as I told her she was determined to help me! After she gathered all of the ladies together there wasnt a second of hesitation before they were asking me what size I was for everything and they whisked me off in open arms to the dressing room and made sure I had nothing to worry about. Words truly cant express my gratitude for their help to complete my first competition, I just hope there comes a day that I can help a fellow competitor in a way that they all had helped me!

Hello Wendy and Traci! Glad you could both make it here! Wendy, your courage is incredible. Traci, you displayed something that is lacking in this world: character. The best helps out others in need, and you did just that.
Both of you are gonna have great futures ahead of you!
