Bob Kennedy dying of lung cancer

Robert Kennedy hasn't been well for months, in fact he could not travel to the Arnold Classic, because he was so ill. His wife Tosca Reno updates us on Bob today........ http://toscareno.blogspot.ca/2012/04...is-is-sad.html

This is a sad, sad time for our family and for all of us, but I wanted to let you know about Bob’s health. Despite his and all of our greatest efforts to fight lung cancer, it now appears that he will not be successful with his treatments, and unfortunately his condition is terminal. At this point we do not know how long he has, but we don’t think it is very long. He was able to meet with Arnold yesterday for a couple of hours which was an inspiration to Bob in this difficult time. It was nice to see the sparkle in Bob’s blue eyes once again. The two legends even flexed!

We will soon be losing a wonderful person, father, great leader and inspiration for both the Company and this industry at large. However Bob’s life’s work, dedication and impact on bodybuilding, fitness and health and the support and inspiration to 10’s of millions of people will continue through all of you.

It's really sad... I find it hard to stomach that with all the advances we have made in modern science, things like this can still take our loved ones from us. Prayers for all.

I hate cancer!!!!

This made me cry! I know what Tosca is about to endure. When we were given "a few months" with my dad's lung cancer, by the time it spread and was stage IV, it ended up being 17 days.

My thoughts and prayers are with their family.

So SAD!!

Robert Kennedy is one of the most significant men the fitness industry has ever been blessed with. Publisher of Oxygen, MuscleMag International, Reps, American Curves, and numerous books including wife Tosca's "Eat Clean" series. He was also a great writer and former Editor of Muscle & Fitness (Muscle Builder/Power back then) and a hard core trainer himself pioneering a number of training techniques including "pre-exhaustion". Many of his books were standards for information in bodybuilding in the 80's and 90's before anyone had access to information via the internet. Heard about the seriousness of his illness through a mutual friend a while ago and it's still very hard to believe. He will be greatly missed and very few people who are now involved in the fitness industry will really understand the great value that men like Bob Kennedy, Jack Lalanne, and the Weider brothers really had on the evolution of fitness and fitness related business in the world.

Thoughts and prayers for Bob, Tosca and all their friends and family.

I just heard about that from a mutual friend. MMI was where I got my start, and I have known Bob since early 90s where he encouraged me to keep sending articles. It's rare for someone to get lung cancer who never smoked, but it happens. Don't know how long he's been ill, but here's a pic of us prior Arnold and I thought he did look very thin:

The above was his last Arnold I guess. Bob is a unique individual.

Musclemag was my favorite mag in the 90s before it started turning into a supplement ad. Yours and Dave Fisher's column was my favorite.
