Default Arnold Amateur also "Invitational"??

Here is a newbie question: Is the Arnold Amateur (bb, fitness, and figure) also invitational, like the Pro contests?

I saw some physiques in the men's amateur bodybuilding classes (just a couple) that seemed out of place to me. Can anyone compete in the Arnold amateur contests, or is it (like the pro contests) by invitation only??

No you have to qualify placing regionally first and apply I believe thats it, its not invitational.

You have to have placed in the top 5 of a National Qualifier within the past two years (same rules as going to a National contest) and send in an application for acceptance. They do have the right to refuse anyone for any reason but I didn't hear of anyone being rejected. They do advertise it as "invitational" because they do have to accept your application and extend a letter of acceptance to you. Hope that clears it up.

Well also...don't know about this year but last year they only slotted so many spots in figure so if you wanted in....had better send in the application as soon as it becomes available. Like I said I don't know if that was the case this year but last year it was definately a numbers game. Also last year they didn't open it up to outside the United States except to a couple of applicants that had their requests in before it was stated nothing outside US. This year obviously they totally opened it up. So I think you will continue to see some changes happen with this competition. Even though it's a show you have to qualify for National Level shows to be in it...it hasn't given out pro cards like another National level show would. I feel in time this is something that may change as well. Maybe not but it's a thought anyway.

As far as I know Mike didn't turn anyone away. They did ask that you be "national qualified" to enter. This year they had a bigger turnout than the first year partially because of them letting international athletes enter.

I personally think they should take a couple of the pro-qualifer slots from the USA and move them to the Arnold. I mean the talent was there and I would help some of the international girls.

I thought the A class had the most talent overall. Actually the A class at the Arnold looked better than the A class at the North American.

Wow! I did notice Candice got 2nd at North American. That says alot especially w/ the Arnold being the 1st major show of the season coming off the holidays. I think more ppl would show interest in the show if it were a pro-qualifier as well. I considered doing the show, but I felt like I'd be dieting entirely too long going in to the Jr. USA.

Part of the problem for some people is that it is the first show of the year. If you plan on doing mulitible show you basically have to then hold your conditioning intill may or july (national level).
