Well, I have been debating whether to start a journal for a while now. Knowing that I do better with some accountability and support, I figure what better place than SC? So, here goes.
I did the SC Excalibur on 8/23/2008 and placed 2nd. I qualified to compete at the National Level, which was my goal. Now, I'm looking forward to the Carolina Clash on 10/18/2008. I want to take 1st there. I went into the Excalibur a lot smaller than I wanted to be. I had a great routine, but I really want to pump it up a notch. I had been dieting for months going into the show, and had spent a while with a coach that had me eating almost nothing and training wayyyyyy too hard. 4 weeks out from the show, I started working with Julie Lohre. She has done fantastic things for my physique. I also have a lot more energy now, and I feel like I'm ready to take things up another level. I have been having a hard time sticking to the diet since the Excalibur to be honest. I need a big reality kick in the butt to keep me on track with that. I do perfect until the night time when it's 8:00 and there's nothing to eat but bland chicken breast. That's when I start to make stupid choices. I definitely will be working on that, and making sure to post each morsel in here.
My goals right now are to place 1st at the Clash, to gain muscle in the off-season, and to compete at the National Level for 2009. I would love to earn my pro-card next year (who wouldn't?), but I am trying to be realistic and just enjoy the ride.
So, sit back, enjoy my journey with me. I'll be tracking my progress daily, the good, the bad and the ugly. Here we go!
Hey Kayde!! Welcome 2 Journal-land!!! Yes...the after dark munchies are an issue for me as well!! Just stay focused. Amy K. and Tiffany who are on the board will be at the Carolina Clash...I'm going to try to go as well...just to attend, no competing for me.
Was the Excalibur your first show? You said you've been dieting for a while....After the Clash are you starting your off-season?

Thanks for the warm welcome! Amy K. and Tiffany, are they figure or fitness? I like to be able to size up the competition...haha.
The Excalibur was my first NPC show. I had done 2 cheesy shows for the gym that I worked at when I lived in NYC. They were a fundraiser, nothing exciting. I have always wanted to compete in the NPC, it just took me a while to realize I could.
I will begin my off-season after the Clash. I started dieting a year ago, actually. I was *gasp* 170 lbs. last September. I had been going through some personal stuff and had lost site of my love of fitness. Luckily, I decided to take control again, and started dieting and working out harder (I never stopped lifting or lost muscle mass, I just covered it up...). By Feb. I was down to 135 lbs. That's when I decided I was going to head to the NPC. So, yeah, the diet has been a long time running...

Amy and Tiffany both do figure. Amy's BF Roger Morrison is the promoter for the Carolina Clash....he's also one of the NPC judges in NC..of course he won't be judging that show. He's also the promoter of the Mountaineer which is in 2weeks at Appalachain state...I'm going to go to that show as well. Another good show to attend even if ur not competing is the Elite on Nov. 8 in Gboro. My posing coach Quincy Roberts promotes that show, he'll be judging the Carolina Clash...The Elite has been the largest show in NC for years...great competition. Alot of ppl come out trying to get a Nat'l qual b4 the end of the year. That's the show where Tiffany and I got our Nat'l Qual at.
^^^^5 on your transformation...there's a thread at the top of the training journals : Fatty Patty/Skinny Fat..post your b4 and after pics there..there are so many diff success stories there.
Yeah..you def deserve an offseason! Give the body a rest!!! I'm absolutely loving mine...feeling so much better mentally!!! Anxious to get back on stage in 09 but right now I know this is the best thing for me!!

I've been trying to call Roger! I was confused. My original plan was to do the Mountaineer. A few sites list this as having Fitness. When I checked the Morrison Prod. site, it said just BB and Figure. So, I've set my sites on the Clash, but I wanted to double check with him to be sure. I will be at the Mountaineer to watch, definitely.
I had thought about the Elite, but that's just too much for one season, and I'd like to get a jump on bulking up.

I'll post my pics in the Fatty Patty thread!
I'm PM Amy for you and get the info...not sure..but the Mountaineer is a Nat'l Qual so I'd surprised if they don't have fitness there.

Holy crap! Could I be anymore PMS-ie? (The answer is yes, but it's still bad). I was on a warpath at the gym, the type you have to apologize to people for the next time you see them. I don't handle the effects of PMS on my body well at all. I hate hate hate feeling fat. Still, the bitchiness really helps me pound out a good workout! This is my first "journaling" post, so bear with me. In future posts I will abreviate my supplements, just wanted to make sure everyone knows what I'm referring to.

Finished this off with 30 min. of tumbling/routine practice. Note on a few things...the lat. pull at my gym has a double-hook bar so the weight is more evenly on the bar. On an orthodox bar, I do around 140 lbs. Julie has me working towards building my back and shoulders up, so the workouts focus a lot on this right now. I'm also only doing cardio 3 times a week, 30 min. each session. This will kick back up soon, but I'm fortunate in that my body stays lean with little cardio.
Ok, so that's all. This seems a little long. I'll try to keep it short and sweet from now on. I plan on posting measurements and bodyfat on Sundays when I usually take them. Hope everyone is having a fabulous evening!
Ok, well, here goes! This video is of my routine, Safiya's routine, and our posing at the finals last month.
My plan is to add in more strength holds and a few more dynamic moves. The routine was choreographed by Lishia Dean, who as we all know loves to dance. I love it, but I'm a martial artist at heart, not a dancer. I think my strengths will come out a lot more if I mix in my personality a little. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Good morning! It was a late night last night...grrrr. I was selling a tv on Craigslist and the buyer turned it into a huge debacle. So, the workout got cut short, no cardio last night, which means I have to make up for that today. So, with the stress and the time crunch last night...I decided to use it as my "cheat" night of the week. Hence the pizza!

Hey NC, thanks for stopping in! Yeah, my workouts are pretty hefty, but they are actually less intense now that I'm working with Julie than they were before. It's nice to be in and out of the gym quickly, lets me have a slightly normal life!

Thanks! I started lifting when I was 14, so I can put up some pretty good weight. I just need to keep upping it to get more mass on me.
So, random thoughts real quick as I start my workday...
Last night, my husband made the mistake of telling a pre-contest, PMSing woman that her v-taper is getting smaller! Argh! I'll be talking to Julie about this, although I'm trying to lay low on her as she is only 3 weeks out from the Olympia. I'm hoping it's just because I'm not as cut up and tan now and he's just seeing things...the measurements this weekend will tell.
I definitely need to get myself in the mindset that I am 38 days from show. I'm having weird dreams everynight now, that I forgot to cut water, I forgot to tan, I forgot my shoes, etc. and I am about to step onstage like that. Clearly I'm feeling guilty about something, maybe just that I'm not making it such a priority as I was before. When I was getting ready for the Excalibur, I was all out, trying to absorb as much information as I could and be on my game. I don't want to obsess for this next show, but I do need to focus a little more.
So, that's my thoughts. I'm off to take care of the job for a little bit. Talk to you guys soon!
Hey girl. Just saw the video. Fun routine and that's cool Lishia helped you with that. I met Lishia about 3-4 years ago and saw her at Team U. She's getting closer and closer for the pro card. You have a good coach helping you there. You have a nicely shaped physique, so doesn't look like you have a lot of work to do to maintain until your next show. Stay focused girlie, you're doing a really great job. I have a question regarding your posing. Is anyone working with you on helping make the transitions a little less mechanical and more graceful and smooth? I think you are as cute as a button, your physique is really nice and your routine was fun. But, if you don't mind me saying, I think you're posing would like more natural and graceful with less arm extensions and just flow into the poses. It would complete the package. You have a great smile and presence on the stage and you can see you were having a lot of fun and that's important. I hope to see you on stage some day.
