Default Jacksonville Physique Contest Returns in 2009

A veritable institution in the N.E. Florida bodybuilding scene was the Jacksonville Physique Contest that has been resurrected for 2009 by area bodybuilding notables. It is my understanding that NPC Central District Chair Pete Fancher has approved the promoters package, which will likely be scheduled at the December 6 Sanction Meeting in Orlando. From Jacksonville rises another opportunity for bodybuilding, fitness, and figure competitors to hone their skills and hopefully move through the ranks as did our neighbor Mr. Olympia Dexter Jackson.

More details to come.

The time has been changed to 6pm for the night show.
Entry forms will be available soon. Plus, the host hotel and venue announcements are coming.

The tickets are being printed now. The hotel is 5 Star with a special rate of $99/night (about half price) and you will be able to purchase tickets online at www.TicketMaster.com very soon.

We are starting to distribute the posters in what should be the final version below. My artwork ain't the best, but Dex and John are satisfied. Thus, so am I.

I think it's good, John. Might have to find a way to make the trip.

I'll be done with school completely then, so I should have no excuse when the time comes.

Time is closing in on this local show, which should be quite interesting considering its revitalization under Mr. Olympia and John Mier (www.premierphysiques.net). The Bailey brothers, owners of Bailey's Powerhouse gyms in North Florida hosted one of the local shows for many years. Dexter and John actually both worked out and worked out of Bailey's at one time. Then there was the big split where the Bailey's decided to no longer support the show, Dexter, or serious competitive bodybuilding and powerlifting in their facilities. The rift continues with the Bailey's actually having attempted to undermine the Dexter Jackson Classic the first year by threatening trainers at their facilities from having anything to do with the event. Dexter had long since transitioned over to World Gym, which he has been with ever since. There are two locations in Jacksonville. Dexter works out at the Beaches location where John Mier runs all personal training operations while Dexter's lady nationally ranked figure competitor Gale Elie runs her personal training business out of the other location. It is the World Gyms in Jacksonville where over the years there have been many video shoots of Dexter working out with a variety of other noteworthy sporting biggies. You can see Dex working out at the Southside Bailey's location (my home gym, lol) in Mits Dexter Jackson, The Blade 2K7/2K flick. He actually drives off in trainer Skip Sylvester's convertible Mercedes as at the time Dexter's ride wasn't as flashy.
With that little history reminder from jville I'll say that as a fan and staffer for the returning show that "The Jax Physique" is back and will be better than ever!
Come out and support the sport in our area that gave rise to the best in the sport and hopefully see another Mr. Olympia in the making!

Which part? You talking about Dex using Skip Sylvesters' Mercedes?

Here is Skips' training business website. The first picture up is of Dexter back in the day.

Lol!! No, this: The rift continues with the Bailey's actually having attempted to undermine the Dexter Jackson Classic the first year by threatening trainers at their facilities from having anything to do with the event.

That's seems a little catty for a grown ass man.

Skip was to be an emcee, but legend has it that he was threatened with getting the boot if he did. He has a home in Costa Rica (I'm jealous) and plans to bailout and live in paradise eventually, but not yet. The Bailey's really seem to quite literally "hate" bodybuilding.

Wish I could live in Costa Rica!!!

Florida's NPC is very complex. Can you explain all the levels etc. Here in NC it's either a Nat'l Qual show or it's not. W/ the exception of the req. for competing in the Jr. or Novice division you can compete regardless of if you've won or not. I noticed in another thread someone was questioning if she could compete at Level II show b/c she had previuosly won a Level IV show...or something like that. I thought w/in NPC you can compete at any show you wanted w/ the exception of having to be qual'd to compete at the Nat'l shows.

You could live in CR. It requires about $1100/mnth in regular income to get residency. Eventually I'd like to move down to the Osa Peninsula near the border with Panama. Lots of primary rainforest, jaguars, toucans, monkeys, sloths, oh yea and a few chicas
I can't find the official writeup on the rules and regs, but basically the level I & II shows are only for locals extending up to IVa non qualifiers & IV qualifiers, etc as far as I understand it.
The Jax Physique is basically a local show. I will do photo & video for it as I don't have a choice, lol considering I likewise do contract work for John Mier, one of the promoters (www.premierphysiques.net) who insisted! There is also a show the Panhandle Showdown in Pensacola next weekend that I'd love to attend (if I could be at two places at once) as I like Russ the promoter and used to live in Pensacola when I attended the University of West Florida majoring in Marine Biology. Those were the days.

OK...we have one show where you have to be a resident of that county, but that's it. The rest are open to everyone except for the state show. I guess w/ all the shows that Florida has it's just easier to use the levels. I swear there are 2-3 shows a weekend in Florida.

lol, not three in one, but several are on the same weekend. At the December sanctioning meeting they hash out the schedule with most of the promoter attending and try to make sure if there are two on the same day that they are in distant parts of the state and preferably not both national qualifiers for instance. Likewise, they try to have a regions local shows prior to the regional shows so as to serve to work in concert for the benefit of the athletes. Shannon Dey can better address these issues though as she is the Florida Chair for Fitness, Figure, and Bikini.

I hurriedly put the tshirt image together. Imagine it in white though as this one is for my website, lol. I'll also be providing free dvd show video coverage to the competitors along with shooting the show photos and providing special photoshoot package rates.
I'll have an interview up this week on Siouxcountry Radio with John Mier the promoter (along with Mr. Olympia Dexter J) about the show and be shooting a promo video with one of his bikini competitors. Come out to the show and hang with Dexter & John Mier
