Slight Disappointment
I must say, after all the attention and rallying that was done to resurrect this show, I'm a bit let down that there are so few competitors. If we want to keep the shows alive, yes, they need sponsorship - they also need participants!!

agreed...only 4 from the USA means that i probably won't be contributing to the cause anymore except for going to the show if they have it.

I am so bummed I had to drop out of this show.(I was ill but am better now).I was ready to go get my olympia qualfication that I should of gotten in NY. I wish there were more girls competing. I believe that because it was cancelled and brought back that it wasnt enough time for the girls to prepare so they choose the ac show instead. gosh I wish I was going..best of luck to the ladies!

I am really suprised more people are not doing the show!! I talked to a couple of people they are not doing it for money reasons!! Most ladies are not sponsored and have to pay all their expences and only the top 2 or 3 will make enough to cover their costs!! This is not a cheap sport!

I think some made alternate plans when fbbing was dropped then didn't change plans back
Sherry Smith tore her ACL on the job last week so no shows for her this year :-(

Thanks for this post, Vanessa.
I couldn't agree more.

I think being off and on messed up a lot of people's plans. Yes; bigger numbers would have been great, but someone is going to get a nice payday.

I agree with Vanessa. Of course everyone have a reason, understandable, but I think they took the show back in schedule in time and I wish girls would have shown a bit thanks for all the effort....after first huuuuuge complaining how they do not have enough shows for Olympia Q.

So why did so few enter this show?
Two reasons have already been pointed out........
Show was canceled for two weeks.
The sport is expensive.
Last year the number of competitors was only 18.
Indeed we need to see more women compete in the pro shows.

'09 IFBB Tampa Contest
I'm slightly disappointed in the number of competitors, too. On the other hand I'm impressed by the level of grassroots support generated to stage this contest. Thanks again to everybody who generously contributed to the effort. Contests sometimes take a little while to build enough traction to gain in popularity and occasionally outside factors can derail that progress such as an economy struggling out of recession. Hopefully everybody has a great time at the contest.

It's a slap in the face to the promoter and everyone here who contributed to the show. There is no excuse. Of course it's expensive to compete, everyone knows that. The show being canceled for two weeks - I highly doubt it effected THAT many people's prep. If that is the case then we'll see 30+ female bodybuilders in Atlantic City, especially since there isn't a show next week in Dallas. I'd say it's more than a slight disappointment.

"We need more pro cards! We need more pro fbb shows!"
Obviously not.
Right now, we need more participation. I would be thrilled if some of the figure competitors were to cross over for this show.

A bit disapointed too but that is not so bad. With 14 competitors and some excellent ones the battle will be tough for those olympia qualifications !

So long as the few competitors that we do have come in tip top shape and make this a real contest, I'll be happy. This has not been a banner year for female bodybuilding shows -- the New York Pro Show was an absolute disgrace. Hopefully this show reverses that trend.

If any pros here have suggestions on how to improve things to better allow them to compete they have an opportunity through the IFBB Rep Betty Pariso (who by the way is competing in Tampa & will be putting on 4 IFBB Pro Shows in 2010). Click link below...........

I would not be "counting chickens before they hatch" re the Pariso's shows......yes there will be 4 shows and expos in 2010 for them...but I'm thinking they're pretty far from deciding on exactly what they will have going on....reads: they still haven't decided on having pro fbbs.....I guess one can only hope...
Here's my opinion about saying the tampa was off and on and the "2 week" break....If a pro wanted to compete...they should have competed...no one would have been worse off...no one would have had an advantage...everyone was in the same boat...a level field...everyone would have had the same 2 week period of "WTF?"....so it's not a reason in my opinion...it's an excuse...
I have to unfortunately move to the side of the obvious here...no or weak turn out for competitors = no or less competitions....if the women don't make a more concerted effort to compete...more shows will look at the tampa's turn out and say....is that really what I want as a promoter?...is paying such a high sanctioning fee for 14 pro fbb competitors worth it?....I think I know the answer to that...but hey....just my opinion...
